Outgoing Report of the Interim President of the National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry (NCCHM) to the Membership
November 2004
The theme of my first report was, “Short term pain for long term gain.” I am delighted to say that NCCHM is now definitely in the long-term gain category!
Donations are up. New members are joining and others are inquiring. And we have just received the grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts for the capacity building of our members as well as other Latino nonprofit organizations.
All of this long-term good news is due to the support of your our NCCHM members. You are the National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry!
You rallied behind our grant proposals. You excited others to join our ranks. And you exceeded last year’s challenge grant of $10,000.00. If an organization is as strong as its members, NCCHM is Hercules!
Now for even more long-term gain. You asked for strategic planning in order to better position NCCHM as a unique catalyst for Hispanic Catholic causes. Acting upon your desire, the board acquired funding in addition to that mentioned above and hired Aurelio Montemayor of the Intercultural Development Research Association. You may remember him from previous work he has done for us. Aurelio has already met with our board, and will facilitate the strategic planning process at our membership meeting. He will also follow up with the newly constituted board (after elections) to complete that strategic planning. So you will hear more from him later.
This year’s membership meeting is also packed with other colleagues and friends of NCCHM as well as the usual and unparalleled ability to meet with other national Hispanic, Catholic leaders. So don’t miss it: be part of our success!
I close by thanking you our members, my wonderful partners on the board, our benefactors and collaborators, and most especially Diosito.
Kenneth G. Davis, O.F.M., Conv.
